If you plan to
marry in Turkey, you need to meet the legal requirements for both the UK

Required Documents:
Certificate of No Impediment from the local registrar of marriages in
the UK (this states your freedom to marry)
Birth certificate and passport
A divorce or death certificate of previous spouse if married before (women
must have been divorced for at least 300 days)
Recent passport photographs
Procedure:
Application to the relevant consulate in Turkey to initiate the
formalities.
The certificate of no impediment and certificate of identity and
nationality obtained from the relevant consulate to be authenticated by
the local Governor office in Turkey - we will assist you with this or
contact the Foreign & Commonwealth Office - phone 020 7008 1111 to
obtain details.
Application in person to the local marriage office to give notice of
marriage, submit the certificates, complete necessary forms and fix a
date for the marriage ceremony - we will assist you with this.
Solemnization of marriage - we will provide translation assistance.
Will our marriage be recognised in the UK?
As long as your marriage was conducted in
accordance with legal requirements in Turkey, and you were both lawfully
free to marry in Turkey, your marriage is legal. You should seek legal
advice in the UK to confirm this.
Will our Turkish marriage be registered in the UK?
No. But under the Foreign Marriage Order 1970,
British nationals who marry in a foreign country may arrange for their
marriage certificate to be deposited at the General Register Office in
the UK. This is not compulsory and does not affect the validity of the
marriage
Other Nationalities
After your marriage, the bride may wish to
change her name in the UK. You should obtain official English
translations of your wedding certificate before you leave Turkey for
this purpose.
Only civil marriage is legal in Turkey. You may
choose to have an additional religious ceremony also - there are
churches representing various faiths in the nearby city of Izmir
including Catholic, Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox, together with
Mary’s House on the mountain above Selcuk.
Other legalities:
The minimum age for marriage is 18 years
You must be of sufficient mental capacity
Mental illness is a bar to marriage
Epilepsy is a bar to marriage
Marriage between close relatives is prohibited
Any previous marriage of either parties must have been dissolved
Polygamy is illegal

No. Marriages that take place outside of
Ireland are not normally registered in Ireland, nor do they need to be
registered in Ireland. This does not affect the validity of the marriage.
